Community House hosts House Party fundraiser

All proceeds raised support the Moorestown staple

Special to The Sun: The Community House of Moorestown’s third annual community House Party fundraiser will feature music, barbeque and a cornhole tournament on Sept. 9.

The Community House of Moorestown invites residents to its third annual House Party fundraiser on Sept. 9, where guests will be treated to music, barbeque and plenty of beer and wine.

“About three years ago, we decided that we needed a more casual alternative to the wine-tasting (fundraiser),” said Community House Executive Director Caryn Lynch. “Our wine tasting has been going on for about 17 years and it’s a really popular event here in Moorestown …

“Because it sells out so quickly, we felt that people were missing out on that event.”

Lynch explained how the House Party fundraiser is a more laid-back event.

“ … We do kind of a throwback theme …” she said. “We ask people to dress casually (and) it’s the perfect time of year, (when) everyone is done vacationing in the summer.”

“It’s just a really great time to come together and just take a deep breath as a community and celebrate being back together in town.”

The event will also include an optional cornhole tournament for guests.

“It was all about community, trying to figure out how we can bring people together and have something competitive that would bring people together in friendly competition,” she said of the game. “It really creates some excitement that night and people gather around to watch the tournament.”

Last year’s fundraiser raised about $18,000 for the community house and was held outside because of social distancing. Lynch is excited for this year’s fundraiser.

“I’m just really excited to reconnect with people that I haven’t seen all summer,” she noted. “(I) kind of just enjoy getting back in the groove of the school year and having everybody back in town doing their regular activities.”

The community house has a lot going on for fall.

“We’re kicking off fall with the House Party, but then we quickly get into planning for our holiday events,” Lynch said. “We have our children’s holiday shop … We’ll have our annual tree lighting again.”

The fundraiser will also feature a familiar face to referee the cornhole tournament and Lynch noted the event’s overall feel.

“ … The vibe is just all about community and fun,” she remarked. “There’s no agenda, there’s no program, there’s nothing to pull people away from conversations.”

“It just has a really great, fun vibe.”
