Summer reading at Moorestown Library

Special events include a mix of indoor, outdoor and online programs.

The Moorestown Library has an exciting summer in store for readers of all ages, with summer reading programs for all ages and tons of special events exploring this year’s theme, ‘Oceans of Possibilities’.

Summer reading kicked off on June 20, with programs for preschoolers, new readers, kids, teens and adults. After a two-year pause, we are excited to bring back the cherished tradition of having young readers report on books to teen volunteers, with a fun new twist.

This year, children entering second through six grades have two exciting reading programs to choose from. They can record their books on our online reading program, Readsquared, come into the library to report books, or do both. Either way, readers can be rewarded for their efforts with Barnes & Noble cards. The more you read, the more you earn.

Teen and adult summer readers will continue using Readsquared to conveniently log books online. Teens will earn candy, books and Barnes & Noble gift cards for their reading. New this year for adult summer readers are coupons for free books at the library book sale and a raffle with a chance to win a family membership to Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ.

For the littlest readers and pre-readers, the library offers activity sheets and reading logs. Preschoolers through rising first graders can earn books, candy and their choice of toys from the library’s big grab box for completing their reading goals.

Summertime at the library always means tons of special events and this year we’re offering a mix of indoor, outdoor, and online programs. We’ve scheduled storytellers, magic and comedy, story times, crafts, robotics, environmental programs, Dungeons and Dragons, yoga, and much, much more. We’ll even have a special visit from Adventure Aquarium in honor of the ‘Oceans of Possibilities’ theme. Throughout the summer, we’ll also have some great Grab and Go projects to pick up at the library and do at home.

This summer marks the 25th anniversary of the publication of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and the library has big plans to celebrate the occasion. Wizards and muggles alike will love trying to solve puzzles to break out of our Harry Potter-themed escape room, showing off your creative skills in our Harry Potter Diorama Contest, or kicking back for Harry Potter movie night.

Summer Reading for all ages runs through August 27. Be sure to visit moorestownlibrary.org for more details, a complete schedule of events and registration information.

Summer reading and all these special events are generously sponsored by The Friends of the Moorestown Library. If you enjoy participating in these activities, please consider joining the Friends. We’ll see you this summer at the library.
