Haddonfield residents seem to be taking to the new electronic waste recycling requirements in town.
On Jan. 1, statewide residents were no longer able to throw out E-waste and municipalities are now required to pick up these pieces through its trash collection services. The department of public works has been collected these pieces since the start of 2011 and residents have taken to the new service, filling up the above DPW pick-up truck with old computers, computer monitors, and even an old electronic typewriter.
E-waste includes old electronic products such as computers, computer monitors, refrigerators, old mobile phones, or basically any secondary electronic device that an owner wishes to throw out or recycle. These items when thrown into a landfill can seep harmful containments into the ground such as lead.
According to the Borough, Haddonfield has begun to pick up this e-waste for recycling during the normally scheduled days. Residents are asked to not put these items in the blue buckets. They should be separated from other trash and recyclables and be put curbside on the ground on the neighborhood’s regularly scheduled trash day.
