Moorestown High School graduate named Shoreman of the Week

Freshman baseball player Joe Morrissey tossed seven shutout innings for his first collegiate win on Feb. 26.

Special to The Sun: Moorestown High School graduate Joe Morrissey was named Shoreman of the Week at Washington College for the week of Feb. 28 through March 7.

Freshman baseball player Joe Morrissey (Moorestown, N.J.) was named Shoreman of the Week for the week of Feb. 28 through March 7. Morrissey tossed seven shutout innings for his first collegiate win in the Shoremen’s 5-0 win over Stevenson on Feb. 26 at Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Morrissey scattered three hits, walked one and struck out five Mustangs en route to the victory. He retired 17 straight hitters, had five 1-2-3 innings and was the first freshman pitcher at WC to toss seven shutout innings in a single game in 16 years since Matt Swanson ’09 achieved the feat against Neumann in 2006.

This is Morrissey’s first career Shoreman of the Week honor.
