Summer activities at Moorestown’s Recreation Center

Youth camps offer sports programs, theater and culinary classes.

CHRISTINE HARKINSON/The Sun: Moorestown’s Recreation Center offers summer youth programs that include sports, cooking classes and theater.

This summer there are all kinds of wonderful youth camps available – culinary, robotics, sports, theater and the traditional general half day camps. If it’s hard to decide which one to sign up for – they are generally four or five days and you can mix and match as you like.

This provides the flexibility to take a general camp in the morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then take an afternoon culinary class like the ‘Jersey Fresh Culinary Camp’ or STEM class, ‘Animation and Cartooning’.

The Summer Parks program will be held at Baker and Roberts Schools and summer sports camp will be held at Jeff Young Park for Kindergarten through sixth grade. Choose the weeks that work for your family, June 20 through July 28.

There are only a few exceptions that require multiple week commitments like the theater programs, such as the production of “James & the Giant Peach, Jr.” for this year’s ‘Summer Children’s Theatre Camp.’

‘Summer Theater Camps’ is for ages 7 to 13 and runs June 20 through July 28. It is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily with five performances. The camps for four year olds and five year olds run for five weeks beginning on June 27, 8:45 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. And the basketball league, where boys and girls play on small teams, runs from June 27 through July 28 under the lights at Maple Dawson Park.

The STEAM Works Studio staff will teach a myriad of fascinating and fun technology four-day camps. The future is now. Learn to build robots, design animation, print in 3D or experience virtual reality and the world of minecraft gaming.

So explore and create summer fun that fits your schedule. Visit www.moorestownrec.com for all the possibilities.
