Gloucester County officially moved its COVID test site last week from the county public works complex in Clayton to Swedesboro Public Works Bays.

The new site on Glen Echo Drive resulted from a partnership between the New Jersey Department of Health and Vault Health, with all testing being done by the latter. The location was chosen to accommodate indoor testing, according to Director Frank DiMarco.

PCR and rapid tests are both administered at the site, and while residents do not need an ID or insurance to receive a test, appointments are mandatory. To make one, visit NJcovidtestingappt.as.me/Gloucester.

As of Jan. 20, the county has conducted 290,729 tests since the start of the pandemic; of those, 229,336 were negative. The positive case count is now at 60,906, including a reported 793 deaths. About 3,570 positive tests and 36 deaths occurred this month alone.

“The Gloucester County Department of Health recommends individuals continue to practice social distancing, sanitizing your hands and high touch areas, wearing a mask when in crowded areas and of course, and receiving a COVID vaccine,” DiMarco said.

“We’ve seen the statistics of individuals with the vaccine versus those without,” he added. “A … vaccine can drastically affect your reaction if you contract COVID-19.”

Residents 5 and older can get a free vaccine or booster shot through the county by appointment. For more information, visit gloucestercountynj.gov/1168/COVID-19-Vaccinations.

Gloucester County is still operating its COVID hotline. Those who need assistance with registering for a vaccine or a test, or have questions about the virus, call (856) 218-4142.
