After months of planning, the Gloucester County YMCA in Woodbury, N.J. will re-open its doors on Dec. 6. The nonprofit organization recently merged with YMCA of the Pines in Medford with the goal of expanding impact in the community, growing membership and forming new partnerships.

Following a ribbon cutting ceremony in August, the Gloucester County YMCA welcomed Cameron Baker as their new executive director. Baker’s priorities include creating new revenue streams, facility improvements and strengthening relationships with local school districts, city officials and local providers.

“The YMCA is so much more than just a gym. We welcome all community members,
regardless of age, income or background to learn, grow and thrive in an inclusive environment,” Baker said.

Moving forward, the YMCA plans to grow youth development programs including “School’s Out” camps for students during holiday breaks, satellite camps and day camps this summer. They will also focus on healthy living opportunities for active older adults such as pickleball and open swim in the mornings. Facility improvements include improved locker rooms and new program space in the front of the building.

“We couldn’t be more excited about the re-opening,” Woodbury Mayor Peg Sickel said. “The Gloucester YMCA brings the Woodbury community together and offers valuable healthy living opportunities for our youth, adults and seniors.”

The YMCA welcomes all community members to to tour the facility and learn about membership specials.

“During the month of December, any individual who joins will not pay membership fees until January,” Baker said. “We want community members to feel a sense of belonging and family when they walk through the doors.”
