One of Moorestown’s best assets is its tree lined streets.
Trees located within a piece of land along each street, called the right of way or curb strip, are owned, managed and cared for by the township, specifically the Public Works Department. Did you know there is a township ordinance that prevents the removal of these trees without a permit?
In 2018, the town council approved an ordinance to protect these trees.
Anytime a property owner wants to make any change to a tree within the curb strip, they must apply for a permit from the Department of Public Works for permission prior to any changes, to ensure they are not removing or damaging public property.
There are fees/fines and replacement costs to property owners who do not follow this law. The full ordinance can be found at www.moorestown.nj.us.
The right of way varies depending upon the street. To determine if a tree is in the ROW, contact Public Works with your address or lot and block number.
