The Gloucester County Animal Shelter (GCAS) held their annual Open House on Saturday, Oct. 2 from noon to 3 p.m.

The celebration included refreshments, music, face painting and a balloon artist for the kids. The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners honored the GCAS volunteer staff at the event.

“The Gloucester County Animal Shelter has been successful and dedicated in finding thousands of stray and unwanted animals’ permanent loving homes,” Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger said. “A huge part of the shelter are our Volunteers. It’s with their help that the animals find a family that will love and care for them.”

“Our volunteers are the backbone of the shelter,” Commissioner Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco, liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter, said. “They work to care so diligently for each animal while they stay with us. Many of our volunteers even keep in touch with the animals after they leave the shelter to keep up to date with their progress in their forever homes.”

Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger and Commissioner Jim Jefferson presented certificates to volunteers at the Open House to thank them for all their hard work and the dedication they have to keep animals happy while at the shelter.

“The Board of Commissioners always hears how impressive our shelter is from the staff to the building to the animals inside. A large component to the success of the shelter are the volunteers that help run the facility,” Commissioner Jim Jefferson said.

Individuals are always welcome to apply to volunteer at the shelter. Fill out an application and a staff member will be in touch: https://www.gloucestercountynj.gov/233/Volunteers-Fostering
