Mayor’s Column: Voorhees Saves Lives

Voorhees Saves Lives is a program that provides residents with free rides home from any restaurant in Voorhees from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

As our restaurants and bars return to normalcy, the Voorhees Saves Lives program is also again available. In 2015, Voorhees Township initiated our Saves Lives Program in an effort to reduce the incidence of drunk driving and save our police department time and money by reducing the number of DWIs to be processed.

The program provides free rides home to Voorhees residents from any restaurant or bar in Voorhees and the ChopHouse in Gibbsboro. Residents simply open the Uber app at one of the participating restaurants or bars and will see a “safe ride” option at the bottom of the screen. The free service will not be provided from one establishment to another but only from the establishment to home. The program is available every day from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Voorhees and Uber are working together to reduce alcohol related car incidents. You must have an Uber account to utilize this service. Voorhees Saves Lives has a limit of 2 free trips per month with a maximum fare of $15 and tips are not included.

No tax dollars are used for this program. It is fully funded through the Voorhees Citizens Event Foundation and Dooney’s Pub, Iron Hill Brewery, The Library II Restaurant, Ott’s Tavern and The ChopHouse. Please support these establishments. For more information visit, uber.com/Voorhees.

If the program saves one life, it is well worth it!

**Aug. 19, we welcome BeaT Tells, the premier Beatles tribute band. This mind-blowing performance takes you back in time with the legendary foursome delivering a note-for-note theatrical event that is the next best thing to seeing the Beatles. The band recaptures the excitement, the mood and the frantic intensity which evoke memories of the 60’s and 70’s. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on the “Great Lawn” at Connolly Park. The “Beer Garden” and food trucks will open at 6:30 p.m.  There is also plenty of free parking.

** Voorhees Township is offering discounted tickets to Morey’s Piers in Wildwood. Tickets are available in the Municipal Clerk’s Office at Voorhees Town Hall. Prices vary according to the type of ticket and several options are available to residents and non-residents. For more information.
