At its latest meeting on July 13, the Deptford board of education announced a celebration for Spartan stadium on Oct 8.
The board wanted to have the event earlier in the year, but COVID derailed those plans.
“We are going to do a dedication of our Spartan stadium and we are going to try and make it a big celebration for all of our athletes and for all of our former athletes,” said School Superintendent Arthur Dietz.
“We had events on the stadium last year, but because we were very limited on how many spectators we could have (due to COVID), serving food and things like that, we didn’t want to just have an event where we couldn’t invite as many people as we would want to attend,” said district Communications Coordinator Salvatore Randazzo.
Former coaches will also be in attendance and stadium donors will be thanked for their efforts.
In other news, Dietz approved the awarding of 2021-’22 supply orders through Educational Data Services Inc. Notable areas include general classroom supplies, at $84,656, fine art supplies, for $17,203, music supplies for $2,088 and office/computer supplies for $3,204.
Also approved was the change order to the Spartan Improvement Plan Referendum. That includes wiring and intercom/clock system installations at the middle school. Installations will be performed by DEC Electrical Contractors and the cost shouldn’t exceed $443,100.
Toilet room facility waivers for early intervention, pre-K and kindergarten classrooms for the 2021-2022 school year were also approved.
The next board of education meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Deptford High School.
