Hopkins Lane closed for emergency repairs
Hopkins Lane remains closed as repairs continue on the outfall pipe from the Hopkins Pond Dam. The dam structure itself is in excellent condition, and there is no danger to health, safety and welfare of residents. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by the end of the week. The exact timing of the project is dependent upon the weather and other factors.
A small sinkhole developed on Hopkins Lane over the outfall pipe from the southern spillway of Hopkins Pond Dam.
Camden County and Haddonfield engineers coordinated with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Dam Safety Officials to determine the repairs.
“Motorists need to be aware of the construction taking place on Hopkins Lane and plan their commutes accordingly,” Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works said. “Whenever you are driving through a road construction zone, please stay prepared for traffic pattern changes, and be observant of posted instructions or directions from police officers.”
Camden County is aggressive about making repairs on 1,200 lane miles of county maintained roadways. Residents should report road hazards they encounter to the Camden County public works hotline, at (856) 566–2980. The number is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
