A local non-profit organization whose mission it is to save the lives of at-risk shelter animals by flying them to safety, recently dedicated one of their life-saving missions to the memory of a Medford veterinary nurse, Kaitlyn O’Hara, who was tragically killed on a New Jersey highway after she stopped to try to help an injured cat.

On Wednesday, Feb. 10, Code3 Animal Rescue Aviation Team’s Captain Roy James left Trenton-Mercer Airport on this special “Flight to Freedom” for the 1600+ mile round-trip flight to Walterboro, SC and back to Trenton, NJ.  The mission was to load up precious cargo of eight kittens and four puppies, then fly them back to NJ where they could be put up for adoption to find their loving forever homes by EASEL Animal Rescue League in Ewing, NJ. The successful mission took just under 9.5 hours to complete.

“After learning about the tragic death of Kaitlyn, we wanted to do something in her honor and continue her mission for her. We felt by helping to save more precious “mittens” as Kaitlyn liked to call kittens, we could essentially be continuing her mission for her.” said Mark House, President of Code3 Animal Rescue Aviation Team. “We will think about Kaitlyn and her compassion and loving heart for animals in every mission we do.”

A tribute video was put together in Kaitlyn’s honor from photos and videos of this special freedom flight mission and can be viewed on Code3’s YouTube page.
