Everman: Volunteer for the Indian Mills Fire Company

In his letter to the editor, Joe Everman discusses resources available to prospective volunteers.

We are in week 15 of the COVID-19 lockdown. I am pleased to report that the volunteers at Indian Mills Volunteer Fire, EMS Brigade remain healthy and continue to respond to the call.

In large part due to the efforts of John C. Lyons, Shamong Township Emergency Management Coordinator, for tirelessly making sure that we have the right equipment to deliver emergency care safely.

And to four new members who are already responding to emergency calls as first responders that will be finishing EMT class shortly, Bri Dalton, Bill Kratch, Keith Egan and Beth Harvie.

Membership in Indian Mills Volunteer Fire Company (IMVFC) Emergency Medical System (EMS) Brigade requires a minimum commitment of eight hours a week to be available to respond to calls for help to 911. That’s an average of approximately 35 hours a month. Shifts are broken down into four-hour blocks that accommodate most personal schedules.

Multiple training opportunities are available at no charge with membership.

Life or death situations do happen, but they are rare. Better than 95-percent of what we do is helping people when they are hurting and scared.

Thank You
