Mayor’s Message: Municipal building reopening to public on June 22

Mayor Joann Gattinelli also discusses upgrades at parks around the township.

Municipal Update:

As many of you are aware, Gov. Murphy lifted the stay at home order on June 9, we are seeing more restrictions being lifted and adjusted daily. I would like to announce the Washington Township Municipal Building will open to the public starting Monday, June 22 at 8 a.m.  The building will conduct business under our normal summer hours of Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Once re-opened, there will be guidelines for residents and visitors entering the building. These guidelines will be posted at the entrance and may be viewed on our township website. We ask for your cooperation and patience as we adjust to the new changes.

Please continue to monitor the township website at www.townshipnj.com and all of our social media outlets for additional information as it becomes available. Please continue to social distance, wash hands and wear a mask when necessary.

Park Updates:

I am excited to announce the new ADA compliant playground in Washington Lake Park is complete.  We are looking forward to the opening of the playground on June 22.  This has been a project I have waited to see come together for a long time. Our town could not have completed this project without the help of our Rotary, who so generously donated funds for the all inclusive ADA compliant swing. I would also like to thank our public works department and park employees for their help and support.  We will have a ribbon cutting ceremony with Rotary on June 22.

Our tennis courts have been completely renovated. We are happy to announce that they are open for play along with the recently completed street hockey rink.  We have five tennis courts and just added the ever so popular pickleball court.

As you walk through the park, you will notice our new site improvements, which include additional paths near and around the amphitheater, as well as seal coating and parking lot stripping for Lot J, which will be completed within the next few weeks.

At my direction, Grenloch Lake Park has received many new updates as well. Our public works department have revitalized the volleyball area, including the installation of new sand and a new net.  We have replaced damaged signage, painted all the benches and trash receptacles, as well as the gates and the current pavilion.

Our buildings and grounds crew will be changing out rusted swing chains and checking all playground equipment, along with completing repairs on the last fishing dock.  We have seal coated and line striped the main parking area and installed new white vinyl fencing around the entrances to the park.  There is also a newly installed additional pavilion to be utilized by all.  Please enjoy our beautiful parks and stay well.
