Letter to the Editor: RCBC is here for you

RCBC President Michael A. Cioce submitted the following letter, reminding the community the college is here for everyone.

We’re here for you.

Many things have changed over the past few weeks in ways none of us could have imagined. One thing has stayed the same: Rowan College at Burlington County is here for you.

Whether you’re an RCBC student transitioning to online learning for the first time, a community member whose livelihood has been taken away by the pandemic or someone who is concerned about attending college far from home, we are here for you.

Although I miss face-to-face interaction with our students, faculty and staff, I cannot thank them enough for creating a virtual campus community in just a few days, while preoccupied with global circumstances, homeschooling a child for the first time or worrying about the economy.

In a virtual environment, we’re here for our students by offering counseling, tutoring or community activities. We’re here for community members by providing short-term programs for training in virus-proof careers, helping small businesses stay afloat or providing guidance on how to find employment.

We’ve also been inspired by our students who have shown exemplary courage to step up for those who need it: volunteering at the county’s coronavirus testing center, keeping the food pantry and blood drives open or working directly with the public, whether in grocery stores, first aid squads or home delivery.

I truly believe we will emerge from this episode as a stronger community. Until then, and long after that, we will be here for you.

Dr. Michael A. Cioce
