Plan a date this Valentine’s Day – New Jersey ranks 12th best for singles

Are you looking for love this Valentine’s Day?

If so, New Jersey isn’t a bad place to be.

WalletHub recently ranked the Garden State as the 12th best for singles, factoring in such criteria as share of single adults, household income and most restaurants per capita. New Jersey came in behind neighbors Pennsylvania and New York, but still had a respectable finish in the top 25 percent.

The study’s methodology was broken down into three key dimensions – dating economics, dating opportunities and romance and fun. New Jersey didn’t shine in economics, coming in at a dismal 37th, but the state more than made up for it in the other two dimensions, ranking ninth in both.

In the romance and fun category, area attractions – from movie theaters to music festivals, amusement parks to nightlife – were considered. From a local perspective, it’s no wonder New Jersey ranked high in this category.

Music festivals – and concerts in general – abound in our region. A number of local towns host free summer concert series. Camden’s nearby BB&T Pavilion rocks all year long, welcoming artists of all persuasions to its stage.

You can easily head down the shore to Atlantic City, bursting with concert venues (even on the beach!) and nightlife options. Speaking of shore communities, there are also amusement parks aplenty. And from spring to fall, carnivals set up shop throughout South Jersey communities, too.

If the classic dinner and a movie is your first date of choice, it’s not difficult to find a restaurant or movie theater within a short drive. And if you’re courting someone with a particular palate? Italian, Mediterranean, Indian, Japanese, barbecue – take your pick, you’ll find it nearby.

Whether you’re working the metrics on a dating site, swiping right on mobile dating apps, or meeting your next date more organically, you can start giving some thought now to what that first date is going to look like. New Jersey has plenty of options.
