The Gloucester County Department of Health is adding flu clinic dates to its February schedule.
Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “It’s never too late to protect yourself from the flu. The best way to keep yourself and those close to you healthy is to take advantage of the free flu shot clinic as soon as you can.”
Freeholder Jim Jefferson, Liaison to the Department of Health, said, “We hope to give more people the opportunity to receive the vaccinations by adding February dates. The county is committed to promoting healthy residents and preventative health care.”
In addition to the free flu shot clinics, residents should take everyday precautions against the spread of germs including washing hands often, using hand sanitizer, covering your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze and avoid close contact with sick people.
“There are some individuals that are at high risk for serious flu-related complications like pneumonia. This includes young children, pregnant women, anyone over 65 and people with certain medical conditions like asthma, diabetes or heart disease. This is why the flu vaccine is especially important for our residents,” added Jefferson.
Children 6 months through 8 years of age who are getting vaccinated for the first time may need two doses of flu vaccine to be fully protected. If a child has not received his/her first dose, get them vaccinated now. For children who are 6 months through 8 years of age and who have been vaccinated with one dose, parents should check with the child’s doctor to see if a second dose is needed.
Free flu shots will be offered on the following days at the Gloucester County Department of Health, 204 East Holly Avenue, Sewell:
- Feb. 3 from 3 to 4 p.m.
- Feb. 6 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
- Feb. 10 from 3 to 4 p.m.
- Feb. 13 from 4 to 5 p.m.
- Feb. 20 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
- Feb. 24 3 to 4 p.m.
- Feb. 27 from 4 to 5 p.m.
