Multiple topics addressed at committee meeting

The Harrison Township Committee hosted a business meeting on Aug. 19 to provide updstes on a variety of topics, including ordinances; resolutions; and a traffic evaluation, among others.

The committee reported on an ordinance that focuses on property maintenance with regard to storing and parking on residential properties. Set for a public hearing and second reading during the meeting, the ordinance reverted back to a first reading and the committee tabled it until its next meeting on Tuesday.

“Ordinance No. 18-2024 was reverted to a first reading again, since our attorney needed to make an administrative change to the language,” Mayor Louis Manzo explained.

Another ordinance that got unanimous approval involves the placing of stop signs at a new, as yet unbuilt, housing complex, which was not identified during the meeting.

The committee tabled one resolution to reduce bond for a new housing development so the township engineer can verify a number of completed items, according to Manzo. Three other resolutions passed.

Also discussed at the meeting was a traffic evaluation for the intersection of Ewan Road and Clems Run.

“We discussed the traffic evaluation of Ewan Road and Clems Run and the fact that the county said their determination would leak (meaning come out) until the end of September, based on their workload,” Manzo noted. “It’s currently a two-way stop intersection, and we have asked the county to consider making it a four-way stop intersection.”

This year’s limited-edition Christmas ornament sponsored by the Harrison Township Historical Society will feature the Christmas tree displayed outside of Old Town Hall. The tree was “deemed worthy of recognition,” according to the mayor.

The final meeting update concerned the proposed addition of four pickleball courts to Ella Harris Park. The township will now consider William Wilt Park instead.

“Dennis Chambers, our township administrator, said that he is re-thinking the location of the pickleball courts …” said Manzo. “But the grading evaluation of the area (Ella Harris Park) proved to be an issue and would reduce the number of courts capable of being positioned there.

“Since we want to stick with the four courts originally discussed,” Manzo added, “he (Chambers) is looking at a site at William Wilt Park as the new location, and he is confident it will work there.”
