Berlin police honor guard graces Supercross event

The Berlin police honor guard presented the nation’s colors on April 27 during the AMA Supercross motorcycle racing event at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the first time the competition has taken place since 1980..

Lincoln Financial Field saw a transformation from a motocross venue last month to a setup for Monster Jam on May 4, with 26 million pounds of dirt reshaped to accommodate the massive trucks and their elaborate course. The venue buzzed with activity as monster trucks like Grave Digger roared to life, thrilling attendees with practice runs ahead of the main event.

Monster Jam officially commenced with a morning Pit Party, where fans had the opportunity to see the event’s trucks up close and meet the drivers. The doors opened at 11 a.m. and the main event began at 1 p.m., featuring races, stunts, and freestyle competitions.

The AMA Supercross Championship – recognized commercially as Monster Energy AMA Supercross – is a premier American motorcycle racing series. Initiated by the American Motorcyclist Association in 1974, it features a series of races from January through early May.

Unlike traditional motocross, supercross takes place on man-made dirt tracks within stadium settings that include steep jumps and obstacles. The format not only enhances spectator comfort, but has also made supercross the more popular spectator variant in the U.S. since the late 1970s.

Previously considered the world championship of the sport from 1974 until 2002, and again from 2008 to 2021, the AMA Supercross Championship has recently shifted to form part of the SuperMotocross World Championship, starting in 2023, and the AMA Motocross Championship.
