When Mayor David Fleisher came into office in January, he pledged to bring the community together.
“I’m pleased to announce fireworks will be returning to Cherry Hill after a 10-plus-year hiatus,” the mayor announced at the township council meeting on March 11. The council approved a resolution to award a contract for the 2024 Independence Fireworks display to KS Productions Inc.
“I’m very excited about the event, which will take place on July 3 at Cherry Hill West stadium,” Fleisher said. “We are working to make sure it’s a safe, family-friendly event. We are working really closely with the police department and all relative departments.
“Here at town hall, the work includes providing appropriate communication with the surrounding neighbors of Cherry Hill West, in order to have the least disruption as possible and ensure a safe, clean, wonderful experience for all,” he added.
In other news, council passed a resolution to approve the township’s participation in the 2024 Safe and Secure Communities program administered by the state attorney general’s Department of Law and Public Safety.
The program is designed to provide eligible municipalities with state funding to help pay for law-enforcement personnel who will address crime in a community-oriented manner, according to the state.
Funding for the Safe and Secure grant program is derived from fines imposed upon
criminal convictions. Approximately $5,500,000 is available for distribution in the state fiscal-year 2024 funding cycle.
Council also approved a resolution to use a state contractor – Motorola Solutions – for police and Department of Public Works (DPW) radio system maintenance and hardware refreshing, which Police Chief Robert Kempf said will be software related.
