New Jersey American Water will soon begin repair of a leak in the 48-inch water transmission main on Springdale Road in Cherry Hill, between Route 70 and Kresson Road. The critical pipeline supplies water to customers in several towns throughout Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties.
New Jersey American Water identified the leak through the use of acoustic leak detection technology, which enabled company engineers to “hear” the water coming out of the deeply buried pipe.
“Due to the location of the leak, we believe there will be no impact to our customers’ water service,” said David Forcinito, of American Water. “While there will be an impact to regular traffic patterns in this area, being able to plan a leak repair instead of reacting to a large break in a pipe of this size helps us save time and resources, minimize disruption to the community and better serve our customers.”
The water company’s local contractor, Pioneer Pipe Contractors Inc., was to begin site preparation on Feb. 19, with construction that was expected to start the following day. The work is expected to be finished by the end of the month, depending on the complexity of the repair.
Customers are not expected to experience any changes in their water service during the repair, and the water company is working with local officials to coordinate traffic plans. Springdale Road will be closed at Kresson Road for northbound traffic, except for residents of Justa Lane, and Springdale Road at Route 70 will be open for southbound traffic only.
