Mignogna sworn in for fourth term as mayor

Michael Mignogna was sworn in for another term as Voorhees mayor last week during the township’s reorganization meeting, an event made all the more momentous by his 20-year tenure. in the office.

The meeting saw Mignogna take the oath from his brother and express gratitude to his entire family, including a wife, son and daughter who were present at the ceremony.

“I’m immensely proud of my family, and I’m proud to serve the Voorhees community,” he affirmed in his opening speech. “I don’t take it for granted and will work hard to make the community proud.”

Highlighting the township’s achievements, Mignogna underscored the recent recognition of Voorhees as the “top town to live in in South Jersey,” a designation from South Jersey magazine. He delved into successful events held in 2023, including the cherished Christmas tree lighting and Cookies with Santa event organized by the township fire department.

The mayor commended first responders for their service and lauded the township’s economic growth, citing 57 new businesses – including the Sweetspot Cannabis Dispensary.

Discussing vibrant community activity, Mignogna applauded organizations like the Cultural and Diversity Club and events such as the Voorhees Got Talent competition. He also unveiled plans for township infrastructure, including the repaving of 22 local roads and the development of new sports facilities – including pickleball courts – on Echelon Road.

Mignogna also discussed initiatives to enhance communication for residents with special needs when interacting with the police and touched on construction of substations at Virtua Hospital to enhance safety for both staff and patients.

Looking ahead, the mayor announced plans for new residential developments at the former Echelon Mall and other housing expansion, and expressed pride in ongoing efforts to open a public winery at Saddlehill Farm by spring.
