Mantua Mayor’s Message for week of Aug. 27

It’s hard to believe that Labor Day weekend is upon us. Labor Day is the celebration of the American worker, but for many it signifies the end of summer and the start of a new school year. We are hopeful that most of you will take time to enjoy the extended weekend while relaxing with family and friends.

2023 Road Program – Work crews will be cleaning and crack sealing the transverse cracks prior to the micro surfacing of the roads in the Chapel Ridge, Crescent Hollow and Spring Valley Developments. Small patching work will also be performed in addition to crack sealing in Crescent Hollow and Spring Valley. The cracks will be sealed with a rubberized hot pour that has stone in the mix to stabilize, fill and seal the cracks. During this process, traffic will be able to move around pretty easily.

The tentative schedule has crews on site for the micro surfacing (paving) as early as this week or next (however, the weather and holiday weekend may cause delays). The residents of these developments will receive a notice 24 hours before the work is to begin (on their front door or on their car(s) providing information on where to park and how to access in and out of their respective developments. This will be a two to three day project since they can only do half of each development at a time in order to allow for traffic/and or busses in and out.

Mayor’s Message Volume #13 will feature Anthony Mirigliani and his mother, Claudette. Our community is blessed to have Anthony who was diagnosed at a young age with the rare disorder, “Pitt Hopkins Syndrome.”  Each year we present a proclamation declaring Pitt Hopkins Awareness Day in Mantua Township to help spread awareness of this unique disease.  This year the Miriglianis will be hosting Anthony’s Dream Big Event on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Bonesaw Brewing Company in Glassboro. Proceeds go toward the Pitt Hopkins Research Foundation.  Pitt Hopkins Awareness Day is held nationally on Monday, Sept. 18. Look for this video during the week of Sept. 4 on our social media platforms and on our township website at mantuatownship.com. For more information on how you can donate to this worthy cause go to pitthopkins.org/dreambigevent.

Mayor Jessica Doheny of Wenonah and I met with Chief Darren White of the Mantua Police Department and his administration this past week. We discussed recent complaints of speeding motorists in various areas of both the Mantua and Wenonah communities. Our police will be out in force addressing these concerns with pro-active enforcement techniques. With school about to open, please be cognizant of your surroundings and drive the speed limit.

We’d like to welcome a new business to town, Memory Lane Antiques, LLC. I recently spoke with the owner, Maria Ostrowski who told me that she did a soft opening a couple weeks ago.  We’ll be helping Maria with her grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m. Memory Lane Antiques is located at the old Orbit Energy building at 106 Mantua Blvd.  Stop by to say hello to Maria and check out all the wonderful antiques and collectibles.
