Former Monroe mayor and councilman passes away

Richard DiLucia had many roles in the community

Mayor Richard “Big Guy” DiLucia, who served Monroe Township for 14 years as councilman and mayor, died Aug. 10 at 84.

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our former mayor, Richard DiLucia,” said a post on the township’s Facebook page.

DiLucia served on council until 2018, when he ran for mayor in the Democratic primary against then-Mayor Daniel Teefy. He lost his bid for reelection last year after switching parties. He opposed primary challenger Samuel Miles, who then lost to current Mayor Greg Wolfe last year.

DiLucia lived in the Holiday City community in Williamstown and was a former resident of Philadelphia. Along with serving the community, he was president of the Westinghouse Union and vice president of the 1199C Hospital Workers union.

He coached football for many years at area schools and for the South Jersey Wildcats. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to the racetrack; was an avid Philly sports fan; and loved spending time with his family, according to his obituary.

DiLucia was predeceased by his wife, Anna Marie (nee. Kucharski), and brother, Vincent. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Alice Pollag and Rick; Richard DiLucia and Paula; Joe DiLucia and Tracy; and ReRe Devine and John. He leaves behind his grandchildren Kristen and her spouse, Seth, Erik, Marc, Laura and Taylor.

DiLucia is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A viewing and memorial service was held on Aug. 16. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in DiLucia’s name to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284, or visit www.heart.org
