The Cherry Hill Atlantic 16U baseball team – fresh off winning the East Region Tournament – is heading to the Senior League World Series in Easley, South Carolina. Its first game set for noon, Sunday, July 30. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN+.
“Every kid watches the Little League World Series on TV imagining one day they will be there, and these 16 boys now have their chance,” said team Manager Christian Carkeek. “We’re champions of New Jersey. We’re champions of the East region. We’d like to be champions of the world.”
The Cherry Hill team, representing New Jersey, got to the World Series by winning the East Region Tournament in Bangor, Maine – and they did it the hard way. Following a tough loss to Pennsylvania, they bounced back to win three straight games in two days, including a pair of revenge wins over Pennsylvania on Monday, July 24. The final game was a walk-off win in extra innings.
Overall, Cherry Hill Atlantic went 5-1 in the East Region tournament.
Cherry Hill Atlantic, which has won 14 out of 15 postseason games this summer, has been powered by strong pitching and a barrage of hitting.
The team now goes to the prestigious Senior League World Series in Easley, South Carolina, where it will represent New Jersey and the East Region in the 12-team tournament.
It will be a quick turnaround. These 15- and 16-year-old boys and their coaches are flying from Newark to Easley on Thursday, July 27.
At the World Series, the winner of the U.S bracket will face off against the winner of the International bracket to be crowned the best Senior League Baseball team in the world. Both brackets are double elimination tournaments.
All games will be televised on ESPN+.
The team has kicked off a GoFundMe campaign to help raise funds to offset travel, lodging and meal costs. It can be found here: https://gofund.me/456f5a17.
