The popular bike trail is roughly five miles in Monroe and continues for about two miles in Glassboro.

Additions will help reduce response time for 911 emergencies

The five-mile Monroe Township bike trail now has mile markers thanks to a donation and collaboration between the municipality and the Williamstown Sunrise Rotary.

“One of my goals this year as president of the Williamstown Sunrise Rotary was to ensure that we were giving back to the township and residents in a meaningful way,” said Dave Debreceni.

“It was brought to my attention that there were multiple people that were asking for a way to know how far they have walked or run on the bike path through Monroe.”

The bike trail is roughly five miles in Monroe and continues for about two miles in Glassboro, according to township Business Administrator James V. DeHart III.

“When looking into it, we realized that there were some faded painted lines, but thought that permanent markers would be a great way to help residents,” Debreceni explained.

The Rotary donated $1,000 for the mile markers.

“The mile markers will help because they’re GPS located,” DeHart noted. “This will assist a dispatcher when answering a 911 call by giving a location on the bike trail with cross streets to reduce the response time for any emergency response needed: EMS, police or fire.

“This means the Monroe Township bike trail is safer for a quicker response from emergency services, and those that like to know their distances for exercising, now have them in place every quarter mile.”
