Committee considers zoning, redevelopment measures

Readings on three township ordinances took place on June 5

The Harrison Township Committee introduced three new ordinances at its work session on June 5 that focus on a redevelopment plan and zoning.

Readings were conducted for the measures, one of which creates a new chapter in the code for the township, Entitled Films, Video and Television. Another ordinance focuses on the redevelopment of Bridgeton Pike within Mullica Hill to  improve the road that runs from the end of South Main to the roundabout on Chestnut Street in Upper Pittsgrove.

Yet another measure would amend the zoning chapter of the township code.   Public hearings and a vote on the ordinances are scheduled for Monday’s committee session.

“The three ordinances that are on our agenda tonight are all first readings and introductions,” Mayor Louis Manzo explained, noting that the measures will be read just by title with no discussion. They are open to review by anyone over the next two weeks until the Monday meeting, he added, at which there will be a review and consideration for adoption.

The ordinance involving Bridgeton Pike has been tied into a resolution that would refer the measure to the township’s Joint Land Use Board, a move approved by the committee in a unanimous vote. 

“This is something we normally do at this point, where we do a first reading and introduction and then refer that plan back to our Joint Land Use Board to review and then report back to us in between these two meetings before we consider it for adoption,” Manzo pointed out.

“It’s really meant to have the … board and stuff, and all these approvals, to get their eyes on the plan and confirm that it meets and aligns with our master plan,” he added. “This resolution is advising and directing them to do just that.” 

Other resolutions approved were authorization of a quote to Charles J. Poliero Inc. to appraise the widening of Williamson Lane, and two cancellations of property taxes under the disabled veteran exemption.

Monday’s meeting will take place at the municipal building at 7 p.m.
