Washing cars for a cause

Spark fundraiser’s proceeds will benefit South Jersey pantry

Spark Car Wash in Sicklerville will host its first fundraiser, “A car wash for a cause,” on Sunday, June 11.

The rescheduled event – canceled on April 30 due to bad weather – is part of the car wash’s community outreach program, Spark Neighborhood, whose ongoing mission is to support communities where it does business.

The June fundraiser will benefit Sicklerville’s Community Care Food and Clothing Pantry, which will receive 100% of proceeds raised from 1 to 4 p.m. that day. Spark will also match donations from customers to the pantry, and nonperishable donations will be welcomed at a tent where visitors can also find out about the food charity’s work.

Spark Car Wash general manager Josh Sears said the business offers a unique opportunity for the community to show its support to a small business and to an   organization that helps people in need.

“We like to partner with local (organizations) to help give back,” he said of Spark,  which has other locations in New Jersey and another on the way in New York state. “This is the first time we are doing 100% of the proceeds to an organization.

“A lot of the time when we will do fundraisers, we will donate 25 percent or 50 percent,” Sears added, “but this time we will be giving it all away to a great organization.”

Sears said the car wash also maintains a relationship with Father to a Fatherless Generation, a Sicklerville nonprofit run by Pastor Glenn Morton, to whom Spark  provides monthly donations and support.

Father to a Fatherless is about establishing a village of men who will: be resourceful, break the cycle, create character, have faith, learn discipline, correct the brotherhood and raise sons

“These seven key principles will change the lives not only in our children, but also help the men that are trying to raise them to understand these seven key principles as well,” said Morton.

The car wash fundraiser will include complimentary food from Jeremiah’s, the Slider King food truck, and live music from GP Entertainment.
