Burlington County expanding annual Student Scholarship Awards

$1,000 awards will be presented to five standout young women scholars

The Burlington County Commissioners and Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council continue to honor and support standout young women by awarding scholarships to those who are aspiring to lead and advocate for other women or pursue careers in STEM, health care, education, law, government and community service.

The commissioners and council announced that applications for Burlington County’s annual Student Scholarship Awards are now being accepted and that the program has been expanded to honor additional female scholars.

The expansion was made possible because of the support of partners such as the Alice Paul Institute, Virtua Health and Remington & Vernick Engineers.

“March is Women’s History Month and a wonderful way for us to honor and celebrate the woman trailblazers of the past by recognizing several of our county’s standout women scholars,” said Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson, who is a liaison to the Women’s Advisory Council. “On behalf of both the Board of Commissioners and the Women’s Advisory Council, we want to thank the Alice Paul Institute, Virtua Health and Remington & Vernick for partnering with us to recognize young women who are already making a difference in our communities.”

“Women have more opportunities than ever before, but it’s still imperative for them to have the necessary resources to continue their education and pursue promising careers,” added Commissioner Allison Eckel, who is also a liaison to the Advisory Council. “These scholarships provide useful financial support and much-deserved recognition for some of our best and brightest.”

A total of five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors in the following categories:

Burlington County Alice Paul Champion Scholarship: awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership and advocacy on women’s issues.

Burlington County Remington & Vernick Engineers STEM Innovation Scholarship: Awarded to a graduating senior who is interested in pursuing a career in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math field.

Burlington County and Virtua Health Light Maker Scholarship: Awarded to a graduating senior who is interested in pursuing a career in health care.

Burlington County Educating the Future Scholarship: Awarded to a graduating senior who is interested in pursuing a career in education.

Burlington County Leading the Way Scholarship: Awarded to a graduating senior who is interested in pursuing a career in Law, Government or Community Service.

Applications for all five scholarships can be found on the Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council webpage at https://www.co.burlington.nj.us/263/Womens-Advisory-Council.

All applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Monday, April 3.

An announcement about the award winners will be made in May and recipients will be invited to receive their award at a scholarship presentation on Tuesday, May 16.
