Active Adults provides seniors with ways to get out

Activities include bus trips, classes and monthly luncheon

Mullica Hill’s seniors can meet with others in their age group through Harrison Township’s Active Adults programs.

The Harrison Active Adults Steering Committee welcomes new members who can partake in programs that include a low-cost monthly luncheon, according to Active Adults 55+ plus Coordinator Barbara Showers.

“We also do various bus trips, movies at the county library in Mullica Hill on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m.,” she said. “And starting in January, games/short stories at the … library on the third Tuesday of the month, 1:30 p.m.”

The monthly luncheon takes place at Richwood United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall on the second Wednesday of each month.

The Active Adults program also provides calendars for people to view on its website or by visiting the Active Adults office in the Harrison Township Public Works Administration building.

Calendars can also be had at the township recreation office in the municipal building anytime on Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The current event schedule continues through March.

As for the future, Active Adults administrators would like to have their own bus for senior trips.

Harrison Township is working on purchasing a new township bus, equipped with all the super comforts for your convenience,” according to the Harrison Township 55+ Active Adults website.

Current trips on leased buses include Peddler’s Village; Lancaster, Pa.; and Cape May.

The Active Adults monthly luncheon takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at a cost of $6 per person at the door. The weekly chair yoga session takes place from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, and strength training is held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Thursday at the American Legion.

In order to register for events, seniors must call the hotline at (856) 478-0824 and leave a message that contains name, address, phone number, which event they seek to attend and the day of that event.
