A Cinnaminson tradition returned on Dec. 9 with the holiday tree lighting at Wood Park.
Delayed roughly a week due to inclement weather, the event brings out residents each year to mark the beginning of the holiday season with the lighting of the township Christmas tree.
“The holiday tree-lighting event has been sponsored by the township for at least 15 years,” Township Administrator Eric Schubiger said. “It’s always well attended. Residents attend the annual event despite the unpredictable weather this time of year.”
Given the way COVID limited in-person gatherings in recent years, the outdoor tree lighting has been one of the most highly anticipated events in the township. This year’s version included refreshments, live music, carnival-style games for children, a train ride through Wood Park and a visit from Santa Claus.
“Children really enjoy the train ride through the park, musical performances by local students and, of course, photos with Santa,” Schubiger said.
Interest surrounding the event was high, evidenced by the large number of requests and inquiries to township officials about the tree lighting. Township residents are also highly interested in learning about future events. The tree lighting is expected to continue for years.
“The township committee and staff really look forward to putting this event together, because it represents another example of the community spirit of Cinnaminson Township,” Schubiger noted.
“The township all comes together to coordinate this event,” she added, “and it is a great representation of the many partnerships among varied public entities which make Cinnaminson a great place to call home.”
