Township creates its own YouTube channel

Site will focus on promoting the best the town has to offer

On top of its current presence on social media, the township now has its own channel on YouTube to enlighten the community on what it has to offer.

“It’s just a way to get more exposure, for people to get more up-to-date information and to get our message out,” said Mayor Pete Scirrotto of the channel, called Mantua Township NJ. “I always find YouTube fascinating. You can just type in a few words and a ton of clips come up.

“We’ll be posting things about the town like the parks and the 9/11 memorial we have,” he added. “We won’t be posting committee meetings, as we’ll mainly be focusing on more feel-good types of things.”

The idea to create a YouTube channel, according to Scirrotto, came from an intern currently majoring in communications at Rowan University. The interns put the videos together and post them online.

“It’s amazing how much young people these days are tech savvy,” Scirrotto noted. “They have a lot of tools at their disposal.”

The channel was created last month, and as of Oct. 4, it has 14 subscribers, with one video posted so far of the township’s 9/11 tribute ceremony at Chestnut Branch Park. Viewed 99 times, the video also shows activities from that day such as a performance by the Clearview Regional High School choir and various speeches.

Future videos will feature the park’s Christmas tree lighting later in the year, the recent Mantua VFW run and other noteworthy events. The channel will also spotlight some of the notable landmarks in town.

Videos will also be posted on Mantua’s social media and Facebook pages. Scirrotto looks forward to the results.

“I’m not expecting to get millions of views, and I really don’t know how it will do,” he acknowledged. “But it is worth a shot and is another way to get the word out to people, just like we do on other social media sites.”

Subscribe to the YouTube channel and switch on notifications to be notified of new videos and township events.
