Moorestown’s Converge Church will host a one-day kids camp called Mystery Mountain at the end of June for students in first through six grades.
The event will include team-building exercises, a guest speaker, themed crafts and games. The church’s children’s Ministry Director, Kitty Bowen, explained that the camp has been held locally due to the pandemic, this being its second year. She called it an alternative to week-long Bible school.
The event kicks off an exciting summer for Converge Church, as Bowen explained that every Wednesday evening through July and August, it will host different activities for children.
“We’ll do a kids’ swim night,” she said. “I’m going to (have) a ‘Christmas in July,’ and I’ll have hot chocolate and cookies for them and we’ll decorate a tree and I’ll have them each bring a little gift …”
“Just a lot of fun things we’ll do all summer.”
Bowen explained that during the camp, children are split into two separate teams for the entire day.
“They do team building within their team and they do competitions against the other team,” she explained. “A lot of the kids … they really (get) into the team spirit. They’ll have two breakout lessons (and) they’ll have group time together (and) we’ll do a lot of fun and games.”
Last year’s theme was “Oceans of Emotions,” a result of the pandemic.
“The kids were coming out of COVID and they had … a lot of emotions that they were dealing with,” Bowen recalled. “And I brought in two counselors that came and spoke as our guest speakers and they kind of helped the kids work through some of their emotions.”
Bowen said the camp is a way for the church to connect with Moorestown’s residents.
“We want to, again, invite the community and reach out into the community,” she noted. “We’re trying to be all about that and letting the community know we’re here, and we’ll be doing some fun activities with the kids through the summer.”
Connie J. Schaeffer, a pastor with Elim Fellowship and a member of the women’s leadership team at New Covenant Community Church in Audubon, is this year’s featured guest speaker.
Bowen expects long-term benefits from the day camp.
“ … The relationships that it builds … when they’re (kids) doing things like that together, the teamwork, the relationships that they build with one another, some of these kids are going to make life-long friendships,” she said.
Mystery Mountain will be held on June 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will end with barbecue. Parents are encouraged to register at myconvergechurch.com or by calling (856) 234-3791.
