Commissioners to hold panel on upcoming plastic bag ban

Beginning May 4, the ban on single-use plastic bags will take effect at retail, grocery stores and food service businesses throughout the state.

The Board of Commissioners will host a panel on Tuesday, April 26 at noon to discuss the upcoming statewide plastic bag ban and to answer questions and concerns surrounding the new policy. The panel will be held both in person at the Camden County College – Blackwood Community Center and livestreamed at camdencounty.com as well as on the Camden County Facebook page.

“This is a major change coming to our state and we want to make sure that all of our residents are prepared so this transition can go off without a hitch,” said Commissioner Jeff Nash, who serves as the liaison to the Camden County Environmental Commission. “We will be going over all of the ins and outs of this plastic bag ban and we’ll answer all the questions we possibly can, so no one is caught off guard the next time they go grocery shopping or buy lunch from Wawa.”

Beginning May 4, retail stores, grocery stores and food service businesses statewide will be barred from providing or selling single-use plastic carryout bags and polystyrene foam food service products. Single-use paper carryout bags will be permitted to be provided or sold, except by grocery stores equal to or larger than 2,500 square feet, who are only allowed to provide or sell reusable carryout bags.
