Rotary Club of Moorestown hosts Second Street Market

Proceeds raised from the event support Fullerton Park.

The Rotary Club of Moorestown will host its annual Second Street Market at the township’s municipal complex on April 14, and its proceeds will help fund the beautification of Frank Fullerton Memorial Park.

Club President Kathy Hiltner explained how the festival – one of seven for this year – came to fruition.

“I was the former president for the Moorestown Business Association, and part of that position was being involved with the economic development group for Moorestown Township,” she said. “I had a seat on that advisory committee and they talked about doing a food truck event and utilizing the space right there at the rec department, where the library used to be.”

“Last year was the first year that we started it,” Hiltner added. “We started it in September, so we did September, October, November, and we (thought), ‘Don’t do November, it gets dark, it’s cold. So let’s just look at doing April through October.’”

“It was a great opportunity for the community to get together.”

Each festival will feature five or six different food trucks, including Dan’s Waffles, Cafe Madison, Dominic’s Tavern and The Fabulous Fig.

“What we’ll do is we’ll vary the trucks,” Hiltner explained. “We’ll reach out to different trucks so that it’s not the same old. We also thought that to do it on a Thursday, it would be easier for us to get some of the food trucks, because so many of them are committed for the weekend, and we wouldn’t even consider that.”

Hiltner emphasized how the festivals not only bring people together, but also take advantage of green space surrounding the municipal complex.

“It definitely is a community event, and it’s a great way to draw people into town from the surrounding areas, to just have a relaxed evening,” she noted. “Bring your chairs: you can listen to the band. The kids have space to get rid of some of that energy and catch up with neighbors and friends.”

“It’s really nice to see the families come,” Hiltner added. “They have their blankets on the grass there, they’re listening to the music and you have all different ages.”

“The lawn is beautiful there (and) it’s a resource that we should really take advantage of.”

The Second Street Market will begin at 5 p.m.
