‘Clean out, then donate’: Nonprofit wants your clothes

Pitman charity also seeks volunteers at its South Broadway location

Special to The Sun: Angels Community Outreach provides clothing, toiletries, food and other items to the needy in its surrounding communities. Its office and dropoff box are located at 334 South Broadway in Pitman.

The nonprofit Angels Community Outreach in Pitman gives a “hand up” to those in need, and it now has its own need: volunteers.

The organization provides clothing, toiletries, food and other items to those in need in its surrounding communities. Volunteers help by making cards for veterans and sewing masks, among other efforts. Individuals are needed on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon to help sort through clothes and other stock.

The charity’s director, Elissa Darrow, noted how both one-time and recurring volunteers are appreciated. Donations are collected at the nonprofit’s South Broadway location and on-site drop box.

“Everyone has clothing in their closets or drawers they do not wear,” Darrow said. “Clean out, donate to Angels Community Outreach, and we will provide the clothing to local families in need and give them a hand up.”

The charity also seeks toys, snacks and candy to fill Easter baskets for local families.

“We will be assembling over 1,200 Easter baskets for local children and senior citizens in our area,” Darrow noted. “We also need thousands of filled plastic Easter eggs. They will go on the Easter baskets and also be donated to local homeless shelters, so they can have an Easter egg hunt for the children staying at the shelter.”

Other regular services provided by Angels Outreach include a veteran’s annual luncheon, a pet food pantry and back-to-school projects. For the spring season, prom dresses are being sought, as well as shoes, jewelry, purses, makeup and nail polish.

Items can be donated from one’s own closet or through a purchase on the charity’s Amazon wish list, found on the Angels’ website. Common donations include food and toiletries and clothing of all sizes and genders.
