Fall Activities for Moorestown

Baking classes, Turkey Tournament and flag football among the festivities.

Start the holidays off with some festive Thanksgiving activities from pie baking to flag football.

Your child can be the star of Thanksgiving by enrolling in the Rec’s Thanksgiving baking classes. There are three sessions of ‘Pies for Thanksgiving’ where budding bakers will make the dough and fillings from scratch. Each student will take home a pumpkin pie and an apple cinnamon pie to share with friends and family. Each session is three hours. The first will be held on Nov. 22 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the second on Nov. 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the third on November 24 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

New this fall, ‘Pumpkin Cake and Mini Cheesecakes’ will be held on Nov. 23 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Add a little twist to dessert this holiday and serve rolled pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting and mini cheesecakes topped with caramel apples and a graham cracker crust.

The fourth annual three-on-three Turkey Tournament will be on Nov. 24 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Church Street Rec Center. There are 10 divisions – five for boys in grades four through eight and five for girls grades four through eight. Register as an individual participant and teams will be assigned. This is a fast-moving, round robin format played on half-courts. Small teams mean lots of playing time.

The 14th annual flag football charity tournament, “The Moorestown Charity Bowl”, will be held on Nov. 26 at Wesley Bishop fields. Fun for the whole family – there are youth divisions (co-ed recommended for grades three and four, five and six, seven and eight), a co-ed division for high school students (9-12) and two adult co-ed divisions, under 30 and over 30.

Adult teams must have two women players. Join a team with six to 10 players, design some fun uniforms (there will be prizes for best uniform) and raise money for local charities. Proceeds will go to The Boys & Girls Club of Camden County, Moorestown Parks & Rec Scholarships, and The Children of MEND (Moorestown Ecumenical Neighborhood Development).

No waiting around – each team will play three 20-minute games back-to-back. Flags are provided, but footballs are needed. Visit charitybowl.weebly.com to register or email [email protected] with any questions.
