Deptford Township’s annual trunk-or-treat drive-thru was packed with Halloween decorations and trick-or-treaters on Oct. 28 at the Deptford Recreation Center.
The two-hour event saw cars lined up for over a mile as families admired the decorated trunks and kids collected candy and other goodies.
Sponsored by the Deptford mayor and council, the trunk-or-treat drive-thru was a socially distant solution at the tail end of the pandemic. Families were able to stop at each trunk while staying in their cars for the duration of the event.
Township officials gave out goodie bags that had Halloween safety tips for trick or treat, including bringing a parent or responsible adult, using sidewalks and crosswalks and wearing light-colored clothing.
Companies and organizations with trunks on display included Nemours duPont Pediatrics, Almonesson United Methodist Church, the Deptford police department and Republic Bank.
“Thanks to the mayor and council for sponsoring and to all the businesses and organizations who came out to support the community,” said Raymond Kratz, of Allstate Insurance. The agency repped a casino-themed trunk with the slogan, “Allstate: Don’t gamble on the future. Get life insurance now!”
Trunk themes included “101 Dalmations” and the Disney Princess, along with the usual ghosts.
Throughout the last week of October, council also organized interactive Halloween trailers to be driven around town parade style at night.
“All of these events and programs the council sponsors are designed to build community spirit,” Mayor Paul Medany said in his weekly video message. “They’re also a great way to meet your elected officials.”
