Mullica Hill’s historic Civil War living history weekend took place on Oct. 9 and 10 for families to immerse themselves and learn more about the era.
Sponsored by MC Events LLC, each day of the weekend opened up with Union and Confederate camp reenactments, the Union camp at 34-36 South Main St. and the Confederate camp at 1 West Church St. Soldiers and civilians showcased authentic weapons and equipment as they demonstrated Civil War life.
There were plenty of novelties for families to explore, including a weapons display; pie baking over an open fire; basket weaving; and naval, medical and engineering displays. Live music was provided by the Pennsylvania Regimental Brass Band.
The Union camp held drill and firing demonstrations, artillery demonstrations and a display of uniforms from the Civil War. On Saturday night, a tour highlighting the ghastly tales of the Civil War took place as an ode to the spooky season. Sunday’s exclusive activities included an ecumenial church service where Union and Confederate actors participated with the public and a Victorian tea party, followed by modeling of Civil War clothing.
General John Houk and John Green of the camps were thanked for their participation by Farm House Design, which supported the historical weekend.

The next Mullica Hill living history weekend and fall festival is already scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 8 next year. Interested vendors are encouraged to secure their spots as soon as possible.
