The Tabernacle committee marked Sept. 22 Stuart Rubin Day in the township to recognize one individual’s desire to help others.
The township committee held its regular meeting on Sept. 22 to declare Stuart Rubin Day in Tabernacle, citing the volunteer firefighter’s 50 years of service to the township.
A proclamation was presented by Mayor Kimberly A. Brown recognizing Rubin for service that began in 1971, when he became a volunteer with the Medford Farm firefighter company. He is now the longest tenured member of the Tabernacle Fire Department’s volunteer force.
Rubin has moved through multiple department positions, including chief operator and head trustee, and has responded to 7,500 calls. In acknowledgement of that service, Brown and the committee proclaimed that Sept, 22 “shall be and will move forward as Stuart Rubin Day in the Township of Tabernacle.”
After the proclamation, committee members who included Joseph W. Barton expressed their appreciation for Rubin’s service and that of his wife.
“You both have given so much to this community, and we’re forever grateful for everything you’ve done for the community and surrounding community.” Brown said
“You guys did more than just fight fires, you volunteered for everything that benefited the community down at that fire house.” Barton noted
At its next workshop meeting on Oct. 12, the committee will discuss an ordinance on solar that was brought up during a previous session. The next regular session will be Oct. 25.
