New this Fall – Performers’ Workshop

Students can prepare any short song, dance, monologue or any creative piece.

The Moorestown Rec Department will host a Performer’s Workshop in the fall.

Just to keep the creativity flowing, new for the fall, the Rec Department is offering “A Night of Living Theatre.” This is an opportunity for students between the ages of seven and 14 to develop their acting, dancing and singing techniques – all levels welcome.

This educational-based program is designed to teach and reinforce the fundamentals of performance and to learn how to collaborate. Individuals will choose which area they would like to focus on – voice, dance or acting. The program is very open to what each student wants to pursue and create.

All the hard work will culminate in a showcase featuring all participants. The curriculum will consist of Broadway numbers, solo performances, monologues, group scenes and dance routines. The co-instructors, Caroline Voyack and Seychelle Kulik have directed the Rec’s summer Theatre Camp productions and are alumni of the program as well.

They are well-versed in teaching, techniques and performance. Ms. Voyack is a graduate of Westminster Choir College where she earned a BA in music and music education with a concentration in classical voice. Ms. Kulik graduated from Drew University with a BA in Theater and a concentration in acting and a double minor in dance and European studies. She has a very long list of performing credits. They are both devoted to development of young talent in Moorestown and are sensitive to the needs of each performer.

The participants will meet on Fridays, starting Sept. 10 and Sept. 17 for auditions from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Rehearsals begin Sept. 24 through Nov. 19. Saturdays, Sept. 25 through Nov. 20 will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for additional practices and held on the third floor of the Church Street Rec Center.

Auditions will be held to gauge the groups’ interests. Students can prepare any short song, dance, monologue or any creative piece. Staff will have a prepared song, dance or monologue (for those who don’t have an audition piece in mind) that can be easily learned or read cold.

There will be three performances – Friday and Saturday (Dec. 3 and 4) at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Information is online for dates of the tech rehearsals and general guidelines. Scott McCleery, sound director for the summer theater program will be back as our volunteer sound engineer to make the performances pop. Come out and enjoy the show!
