In its four years running, this initiative has successfully found forever homes for around 150,000 shelter animals.

On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Gloucester County Animal Shelter (GCAS) will be participating in the annual Clear the Shelters event by waiving adoption fees on all animals in the shelter.

The shelter is located at 1200 N. Delsea Drive in Clayton.

“By waiving fees, the county is making pets available to loving homes that are looking for that perfect pet that may not have been able to afford them before,” Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger said.

“Clear the Shelters helped us adopt out so many animals into loving homes in one day,” said Commissioner Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco, who is the Liaison to the Gloucester County Animal Shelter. “Shelter populations become larger in the summertime due to kitten and puppy births and finding shelter dogs and cats quality homes is paramount. The Clear the Shelters initiative has been successful and we look forward to participating again this year.”

The nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative was started by NBC and Telemundo as a way to offer low cost or completely waived fees in order to help local families find the perfect pet for them at an affordable cost, or no cost at all.

In its four years running, this initiative has successfully found forever homes for around 150,000 shelter animals.
