County Commissioners make $8 million available to nonprofits for COVID-19 relief

Local and regional politicians to gather tomorrow afternoon at American Legion Post 372 in Cherry Hill for the formal announcement.

Over the course of the pandemic, nonprofits have been financially devastated in variety of ways. Based on this significant loss in funds and the ongoing public health crisis that still exists today, the Commissioner Board will be making up to $8 million of funding available for these pillars of our community.

An announcement will be made tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. from American Legion Post 372 in Cherry Hill, located at 1532 Martin Avenue.

The federal funds are being utilized from the American Recovery Plan Act passed in 2021.

The grants are intended to support organizations which serve vulnerable and at-need populations within the county; provide on-demand pandemic-focused services that are critical to the county’s public health and safety response to the COVID-19 public health emergency, and strengthen the county’s travel, tourism, and hospitality industries whose operations have been substantially affected by the pandemic.

“Hundreds of benevolent organizations throughout our community have been adversely impacted by COVID-19. Now, they will have the ability to recoup funds and, in many respects, preserve their vital mission of helping our residents,” Commissioner Melinda Kane said.

“Many of these organizations are part of the foundation of Camden County and we have a moral obligation to ensure these critical partners not only stay afloat, but thrive during this historic time.”

Funds from this program may be used to accomplish any of the three aforementioned objectives and may be applied retroactively as reimbursement of eligible expenditures or reductions in revenue incurred during the COVID-19 public health emergency from March 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021, or prospectively to enhance existing programs, services, and expenditures that are necessary in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency for the period Oct. 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022.

Applications must be submitted via mail or email by Nov. 30, by 5 p.m. The County is not responsible for late submissions and submissions that do not meet all terms and conditions of the program.
