Mullica Hill resident receives 40-Year Federal Service award

Schneider joined the Navy in 1978 and spent 5 years on active duty serving in Pearl Harbor and Southern California

Krista Schneider, a Naval Support Activity Philadelphia safety manager, was recently awarded a 40-year Federal Civil Service award during a ceremony on the base. Presiding over the event was Rear Adm. Charles “Chip” Rock, commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic.

Rock thanked Schneider for “making the Navy a safer place for everyone” and for her enduring commitment to the Navy and nation.

Schneider joined the Navy in 1978 and spent 5 years on active duty serving in Pearl Harbor and Southern California. She transitioned to private practice after the Navy, but at the urging of her father, rejoined the Navy as a civilian in 1991. She went on to serve at a number of locations in Southern California and eventually moved back to the Philadelphia area in 2008. She worked with the Philadelphia Veterans Administration. She assumed her current position at NSA Philadelphia in February 2020.

“Yes, I did think I would serve 40 years in the Navy,” says Schneider, reflecting on her career.  “I feel very strongly about serving my country and I worked with some amazing people.” “I would not change one thing,” she added.

“Krista did awesome work at NSA Philadelphia,” says Capt. Preston Gill, base commanding officer. “The safety program was taken to a higher level under her guidance and leadership and she will be greatly missed when she retires June 30.”

In her spare time, Schneider is a horse riding instructor who helps disabled adults and children. She’s also the Certified Horsemanship Association New Jersey state representative.
