Voorhees Police Department participates in National Drug Take Back Campaign

Residents looking to properly discard old medication can do so at the Voorhees Police Department on Saturday, April 24 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The Voorhees Police Department will be participating in the National Drug Take Back Campaign.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.

All residents that are looking for a way to properly discard of old medications are encouraged to drop them off at the Voorhees Police Department on Saturday, April 24 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

More information about this event can be found at https://takebackday.dea.gov/.

The Voorhees Police Department is also participating in Project Medicine Drop, which regularly offers a safe place to dispose of unwanted medication in the lobby of the Voorhees Police Headquarters. The Voorhees Police Department in conjunction with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs provides this service free of charge.  The unwanted medications are disposed of according to established state procedures.  The following items can be disposed of in Project Medicine Drop box: pills, capsules, patches, pet medications.  Syringes and liquids are prohibited.  For more information visit http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/meddrop.
