County reports 82 new COVID cases

In addition to UK and South African variants, Brazilian strain now on list to guard against in Garden State.

The Camden County Department of Health on Thursday reported 82 additional confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Camden County. This brings the aggregate number of confirmed positive cases to 39,764 in Camden County today and 1,068 total fatalities.

“Yesterday, Governor Murphy announced the first two cases of the highly contagious COVID-19 Brazilian Variant – P1 found in New Jersey,” said County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli, Jr.

“With vaccinations underway, we are turning a corner in the fight against this pandemic, but there is still a tremendous amount of uncertainty regarding what’s ahead. This disease still has the ability to spread and cause serious illness or death. Now is not the time to let our guards down. Please keep wearing a mask and social distancing until it is safe to ease these measures.”

Trace investigations are being facilitated with the patients and remain ongoing.

In addition, the county Department of Health is also announcing 2,311 confirmed resident cases and 1,317 staff cases have occurred out of the aggregate case load of 39,764 in our 56 long-term care facilities. At this time, 459 resident deaths have been reported from these facilities, as well as seven staff deaths, out of our 1,068 total fatalities countywide.
