Bread of Life seeks Thanksgiving donations

Food pantry expects 100 families for November holiday

Everyone deserves a Thanksgiving dinner, and the Bread of Life Food Pantry is trying to make sure local families are no exception.

Through Nov. 14, the pantry located at Epworth United Methodist Church in Palmyra is looking for donations specifically for Thanksgiving, including stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, canned yams, canned fruit, and gravy. Turkeys will also be collected through Nov. 21. Donations can be brought to the pantry between 1 and 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and between 7 and 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

The goal is to provide families with their usual pantry supply, as well as the makings for a Thanksgiving dinner.

“There’s a need in the community and we’re trying to fill that need,” said pantry coordinator Pete Kuhn.

Bread of Life Food Pantry serves Palmyra, Cinnaminson and Riverton, and is typically open once a month. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March, the pantry has seen a greater need in the community and has been open twice a month to serve local families. That will continue for the foreseeable future.

“The numbers keep going up,” Kuhn said.

According to a post on the pantry’s Facebook page, 80 families attended the last pantry day on Oct. 24. A typical pantry day usually sees around 60 families. For the Thanksgiving pantry day on Nov. 21, Bread of Life is expecting around 100 families, and they hope the community answers the call to ensure these families’ Thanksgiving tables are full.

In addition to the Thanksgiving pantry day on Nov. 21, the remaining dates for 2020 are Nov. 7, Dec. 5 and Dec. 19. Those who attend should wear a mask and do not need to get out of their car. More information can be found at the pantry’s Facebook page, website at breadoflifepantry.webs.com, or by calling (856) 829-1908. Bread of Life is located at Epworth UMC, 501 Morgan Ave., Palmyra.
