New public dog park to be created next to Croft Farm

Brand new facility to become a reality thanks to Camden County grants.

Mayor Susan Shin Angulo and Township Council announced last week, that Cherry Hill will be moving forward with plans to construct a new dog park.

Township Council approved a resolution at its open public meeting on Sept. 29, that authorized the project to proceed. The new facility will be located adjacent to the Croft Farm Art Center, Croft Farm historical buildings, the Cherry Hill Recreation Department, soccer fields, and is in close proximity to Camden County’s Challenge Grove Park and Jake’s Place All-Inclusive Playground.

“Now more than ever we need outdoor spaces that allow our residents to stay active
and connect with one another in a safe and socially distanced way,” said Angulo. “This new Dog Park will be unique in Cherry Hill and it’s coming at just the right time and place.”

The plans are somewhat distinctive in that they allow dogs to run free in a cleared,
fenced-in area, as well as a fenced-in wooded trail space, allowing owners and dogs
alike to enjoy Cherry Hill’s beautiful trails together.

There will be separate areas for large and small dogs and a covered pavilion. The project will also include ADA parking improvements, irrigation, benches, and fencing.

Development of the dog park and trail enhancement costs will be offset using a
$25,000 grant from Camden County’s Open Space Trust Fund and a portion of a
$100,000 Camden County Multi-Use Trail grant.

In addition, funds for the covered pavilion were donated by the Peggy Spiegler Melanoma Research Foundation.

“Several years in the making, this is a major win for dog lovers and all residents,” added
Council President David Fleisher. “The park is in a central location and adjacent to
recreational open spaces for all to enjoy.”

The Cherry Hill community has long anticipated a dedicated dog park facility to allow
dogs to exercise off-leash. This location provides a unique dog park facility with the
inclusion of both open and wooded areas and the added benefit of having the entire
facility secured by fencing.

The completed dog park will include fenced nature trails
and open space areas to allow unleashed dogs to safely run and play.
