The following is a release from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office:
A Camden man was sentenced to 38 years and 6 months in prison for shooting his estranged wife at the Cherry Hill Towers Apartments in November 2018.
Brian Walker, 55, of Camden, was found guilty earlier this year during two separate trials at which the victim displayed great strength and courage in confronting her accuser in court and testifying against him. He was sentenced by Judge Francisco Dominguez on Aug. 19.
“We hope this trial shows how seriously Camden County takes domestic violence,” said Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer. “We are truly dedicated to seeking justice for victims of domestic violence and firmly believe it is our job to fight for them every step of the way. We understand these cases are very difficult for victims and the court process can be intimidating, but our Domestic Violence Unit and our Victim Witness Unit are fully committed to protecting and standing by our victims in each and every case.”
The state’s evidence at trial showed that Walker waited for his wife outside the apartment complex on November 4, 2018. As she walked to her car, he shot her multiple times.
After the shooting, Walker fled to Florida before he was captured by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force – Tampa Division on Dec. 7, 2018.
Domestic Violence Section Chief Sonja Furlow and Acting Assistant Prosecutor Colleen Gardner tried the case over a six-week time period. Walker was found guilty on eight charges, including attempted murder.
